PORT ST. LUCIE — Marco Corrales gave up baseball early on because he was afraid of getting hit by a pitch.
The 13-year-old Renaissance Charter School eighth-grader from Port St. Lucie is now over that fear and looks forward to stepping into the batter’s box.
Corrales is one of 83 players, ages 7-13, attending the St. Lucie Mets baseball camp. The camp, run by St. Lucie players, coaches and office personnel, began Wednesday and ends Friday.
“I’m having fun,” Corrales said. “I haven’t played baseball in a while, but my dad says I have power and I want to go back (to playing on a team). I just didn’t have a good experience with it before.”
The camp is broken into eight stations focused on hitting, pitching, fielding grounders, catching fly balls and base running.
