Is LeBron, right, a bigger egomaniac than Shaq?
LeBron James made an announcement on Wednesday. Or at least his PR people did.
The King announced the return of his youth basketball camp to San Diego, which will take place from July 29-Aug. 2 at UCSD and be open to campers aged 7-to-17.
“I am looking forward to the fifth year of the King’s Academy camp and being able to share lessons I have learned in my years playing basketball and in life,” James “said” in a press release.
OK. So it’s not the LeBron James news everyone was hoping for. Except for those lucky kids who get to spend some quality basketball time with the world’s biggest ego — ahem, basketball star.

This drill will help develop full court passing skills, teaching your players to pass, catch, and finish on the run. When running any passing drill, ensure your basketball team communicates by calling out names.
Preparation
- Player 1 starts with the ball on the right baseline
- Player 2 stands in the outlet area (on the three point line at a 45 degree angle from the basket)
Execution
1. Player 1 outlets the ball to Player 2
2. Player 2 dribbles the full length of the floor and converts the layup
3. Meanwhile, Player 1 has sprinted the length of the floor to the opposite foul line, turns around, heads back down the court, and looks for a long pass from Player 2
4. Player 2 gets his own rebound and throws a baseball pass to Player 1
5. Player 1 converts the layup. Player 2 sprints to reach Player 1’s rebound before it hits the floor.

In every sport spectators have their favorite play. In baseball, it might be the squeeze play or the inside-the-park homer. In football, it might be a perfectly executed screen pass or draw play. In basketball, it might be the pick and roll or the dunk off an “ally oop” pass. My favorite in basketball has been the bounce pass, particularly on a fast break, either two-on-one or three-on-one. I’m not sure why, but I always loved seeing a bounce pass hit a player perfectly on target while the player is in stride. I also love watching the bounce pass in general. Former pro player, Oscar Robertson, who was a favorite of mine, had an outstanding bounce pass that always seemed to hit his target 100% of the time. Larry Bird was another favorite of mine. He was the master at throwing long bounce passes that always seemed to be inches away from the defender’s fingertips. More recently, Pete Carril’s “Princeton’s Offense” used the bounce pass to almost perfection in their offense.
